I found myself by accident
One of the first questions people often ask when you meet someone new is ‘what is it that you do for work?’… Except when Laura decided to throw her career in the bin, she lost not only her job but her entire sense of identity.
After spending her whole life building a career that was for other people’s benefit, Laura tells a story of how sometimes an accident can lead to a deeper sense of purpose.
Laura is a self-employed menstruality mentor, sex educator & body casting artist originally from North East England. She has lived in Scotland for most of her adult life, moving to Aberdeen at the end of 2014 she was told that ‘she’d either love it or hate it’. While her feelings may have swung between the two over the years, she has opted for the former having chosen to settle here.
It has always been a goal of mine to be part of a TED audience but when the opportunity came up to speak about identity, of all things, I just knew that I HAD to apply. I never really imagined myself to be on the stage but now that I know I’m going to be, I feel overwhelmingly privileged and I genuinely can’t wait to share what I have to say.
